A superb, medium size ammonite, sliced in half and polished to reveal the beauty of its chambers all of which have slowly filled over millions of years with glassy crystals.
The exterior of this amazing fossil is almost entirely comprised of the most beautiful rainbow hued nacre. Absolutely stunning!
Ammonites were relatives of squids and nautili which thrived in the seas during the time of the dinosaurs. Their name originates from the Greek ram-horned god Ammon. There were many different varieties, ranging in size from a penny to a tractor tyre.
