Fossilstone Carving in Ammonite Style

At first glance, this looks like a beautifully preserved ammonite fossil, but it is actually a carving made from fossilstone marble.
Around 5 inches across, the stone itself is packed with tiny fossil fragments and ancient marine remains, which gives the surface its wonderful natural patterning and makes every section of the carving interesting to examine.
The ammonite shape has been carefully carved to emphasise its ridged spiral form, while the fossil-rich stone adds another layer of history and texture. So although the ammonite itself is carved, the fossils within the stone are very real.
