A lovely, dark, cut and polished ammonite with some fascinating nacre layers on its outer surfaces. Lots of crystals caves in this wonderful piece.
Ammonites were relatives of squids and nautili which thrived in the seas during the time of the dinosaurs. Their name originates from the Greek ram-horned god Ammon. There were many different varieties, ranging in size from a penny to a tractor tyre.
